A tree that has come all the way down is often less dangerous than one that is half down, but it still needs to be cut and cleared carefully. Root plates that have lifted out of the ground can snap back when the trunk is cut, and a trunk resting across a fence or a vehicle is under tension that has to be released in the right order. We assess the tree, cut it in sections from the top of the fall toward the root, and stack or chip as we go so the yard is clear when we leave. If the tree came down across your driveway or blocked a door, tell us when you call and we will treat it as a priority. We haul the trunk, chip the brush, and leave the site raked. If the roots pulled up a section of lawn, ask about topsoil and sod to finish the spot.

Hanging and Broken Limb Removal

The most common call after a wind or snow event is a hanger: a limb that broke but did not fall, and is now resting in the canopy or dangling over the roof, the driveway, or the sidewalk. Hangers come down without warning, usually on the next windy afternoon, and they are heavier than they look. We climb or reach the limb, cut it free in a controlled way so it does not swing into the house, and make a proper cut back at the branch collar so the tree can seal the wound instead of leaving a torn stub. While we are up there we look for other cracked limbs that the storm weakened but did not finish. Call Xcel Energy first and stay away from the tree. Anything in contact with an energized line is the utility's job. Once the line is cleared or de energized, we handle the rest of the tree.
