Trees in Thornton

From Original Thornton to Eastlake

The oldest part of the city grew up in the mid 1950s around 88th Avenue, when a developer built the first planned community in Adams County on farmland. Those yards now hold cottonwoods, Siberian elms, and ash trees that are sixty years old and huge. Many have never had a real pruning, so they carry dead wood high in the crown and heavy limbs over roofs and garages.

Up north toward 124th and Eastlake the houses are newer and the trees are younger. There the work is usually shaping builder planted trees before they grow into a problem, or taking out ones planted too close to the foundation.

Local Know How

Big Trees on Tight Lots

A Thornton backyard is rarely big enough to drop a tree whole. Fences, sheds, playsets, and power drops are always in the way. Our climbers rope each piece down instead, the way you see in the photos on this page, and the ground crew bucks the wood and feeds the chipper as it comes down.

Thornton also asks residents to go easy on lawn watering during dry years. Thirsty trees in clay soil drop limbs more easily, which makes a check on the big ones worth it before summer storms.

What We Do Here

Tree Services We Offer in Thornton

Tree Removal

Old cottonwoods, dying elms, and trees too close to the house. Our tree removal work is done in sections when there is no room to fell.

Trimming and Pruning

Deadwood out, weight off long limbs, clearance over roofs and driveways. See tree trimming and pruning.

Stump Grinding

We grind stumps below grade so you can reseed or lay sod. More on stump grinding.

Ash and Tree Health

Ash trees are common across the metro and emerald ash borer is spreading on the Front Range. Our tree health visits give you a straight answer on what can be saved.

Storm Cleanup

Wet spring snow is hard on Thornton’s big elms. Our storm services move hazard calls to the front of the schedule.

What Customers Say

Every review on this site is a real Google review, posted by the customer.

★★★★★

“Absolute fantastic job with tree removal. Fast, efficient, and pricing was very reasonable especially for the amount of work involved with the three trees I had removed. What this team did in three hours would have taken me three days of cleanup. Would highly recommend.”

★★★★★

“Ricardo Jr and his crew were very professional, highly skilled and efficient. They trimmed two huge honey locust trees and an ash tree. The trees went from dead and scraggly to beautiful. Seeing all the heavy dead branches come out made me think I was lucky nothing fell out and smashed my car or roof before arbol de fuego fixed the problem.”

Good Questions

Common Questions in Thornton

Do you work in both the older south end and the newer north end of Thornton?

Yes. We are in the 1950s blocks near 88th Avenue and in the newer neighborhoods up toward 124th and Eastlake. The trees are different, so the work is too, but the written quote comes first either way.

Thornton is on watering restrictions. Should I worry about my trees?

Lawn limits can leave big trees thirsty, especially in clay soil. If you see thinning crowns or early leaf drop, have us look before you assume the tree is dying. Sometimes a slow deep soak and a good pruning is all it needs.

Can the city tell me if a tree is on my property or theirs?

Thornton has a city forester and a forestry office that handles trees on city land and in public spaces. If you are not sure who owns a tree near the street, call them first, then call us for anything on your side of the line.
